Hey friend, it's Kristen. As an online content creator, I get to see the best and worst of people in the comment section of my Instagram.

Some people go out of their way to uplift and to be so kind.

Unfortunately, a few people use the comment section to try to tear others and the church down.

Now, while my natural reaction to these comments is frustration, I have made it my mission to be

kind in the face of contention. And now, it's often incredibly hard, but the Lord has commanded us in Doctrine and Covenants

136, verse 23, cease to contend one with another.

Cease to speak evil, one of another.

Now that word cease is interesting.

It isn't a warning against not doing something we've never done. The word cease

means God knows we're doing it already. He's asking us to stop the contention that we're currently

engaged in. Now, while I do a great job of being peaceful online, I often have contentious

thoughts while reading negative comments. Even though no one else is negatively affected by those

thoughts, I certainly am. Let's consider today one way we can cease creating or contributing to

contention, whether it's online or out loud or even in our thoughts. Where might we be stirring

up trouble instead of creating peace? And then let's do what the Lord asked and stop it.

So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is, stop all contention.
