It used to be that hacking was the symbol of the counterculture.

It was about solving problems outside of existing systems,

about making up your own rules.

Hackers were outsiders.

But in the 90s, things changed.

You could work with venture capitalists.

You could have a company that made millions and millions of dollars,

you can make millions and millions of dollars and still be a true hacker.

That's Stephen Levy. He's the journalist who wrote the book on hackers.

Literally, in 1984, it was called hackers.

Stephen's a friend.

We got to know each other covering the same company, Facebook. We both met Mark Zuckerberg when he still needed a

dot edu address to get an account. For the last three years Stephen's been talking to

Mark and now he has a new book, Facebook, The Inside Story.

And Mark, well for a generation of companies, he was the face of hackers gone mainstream.
