Have you ever looked at me a middle-aged blonde-haired blue-eyed somewhat bubbly mother of two who

0:18.7

preaches inner peace and introspection have you ever looked at me and wondered how that squares with a deep and

0:27.8

abiding love of Stephen King? Well you would not be the first to wonder that my family and friends have been

0:35.2

baffled at my devotion to the King of Horror since I read my very first Stephen King novel in the

0:41.7

fourth grade. Yes, the fourth grade. But here's what I want to tell you about

0:47.0

this master storyteller. Stephen King's works are scary but not in the way you think.

0:55.8

I know that you're picturing a killer clown and pet cemeteries and a bloody prom queen and all of those things are present in Stephen King's books

1:08.0

and in the movie adaptations of his stories but I promise you that what Stephen King is doing in his novels and short stories

1:16.8

is so much more interesting than monsters under the bed or just him simply trying to scare you. The themes in Stephen King's

1:26.6

stories are often about where our deepest fears come from and exposing that the real horrors are not always the monsters themselves.

1:36.0

He writes in complicated ways about history and mental illness and the power of children and loss and yes friendship. Now I created the Stephen King Summer

1:48.1

Club because I wanted to talk about all of these things with you. I am a Stephen King evangelist and I don't want you

1:56.0

to be scared of his writing. I don't want you to miss out on reading one of the

2:00.6

greatest storytellers in all the world throughout all of history because you're

2:06.0

too scared to pick up the book.

2:09.4

And by the way, if you want more specifics about my love for Stephen King

2:13.0

and why I think you should read him

2:14.7

and where you should start, go listen to episode 121

2:19.4

Stephen King starter kit.

2:21.4

I created that just for you. It's a deeper dive into my Stephen King

2:25.9

passion. And if you don't have time to go back and listen to that whole episode I

2:30.8

will just tell you quickly that my favorite Stephen King book of all time is it, but I do not recommend starting there.
