former senior advisor to the Secretary of State.

Gaza, the conflict is fog of war, but right now we're told there's a communication

open between the White House and Jerusalem to do with dissent by Charles Schumer in a speech that

he made last week to the floor of the Senate saying that he wanted to call for a new election in Israel.

They've had six within memory.

And a new Prime Minister, Mr. Netanyahu.

In other words, not only call for an election,

but call for a result of the election.

The President, within several hours, days,

endorsed Mr. Schumer's remarks.

Mr. Netanyahu answered in some fashion over these last days by saying,

the Raffa operation goes forward.

The Israeli people will make up their minds who their

leadership is. Right now I'm concentrated on winning the war. I paraphrase.

Mary, what do you make of this dispute between allies. Is it revelatory? Is it what we can expect in a long

conflict with any unhappy facts on the ground?

I'm thinking of the civilian casualties.

Or was it a break?

Was it a momentous break?

I don't think that any American president can fully break with the Democratic state of Israel

so I don't perceive it as a full break. I do think however it is a very significant political shift for the Democratic Party and I see it through the lens really wholly of domestic politics.
