And before that, Mary and I met when she was in Hong Kong.

Many years we reported through Mary the crisis in Tibet, the crisis in Taiwan.

Not eventually the crisis in Hong Kong, Mary had moved back to New York

by that time, but the tragedy of Hong Kong. I mentioned this right away because there's a hero

named Jimmy Lai, who published a paper called The Apple Daily for many years and has been crushed by the regime

on the mainland and is on trial essentially for the remainder of his life.

He's ill.

He's my age in the upper 70s.

And he's being persecuted because at one point he met with the Secretary of State or the Vice President of the United States,

and he said things that are completely acceptable in terms of how we understand media,

but the PRC is crushing him.

I mention all this, mostly to keep Jimmy Lai's name alive, there's a new biography I will speak of in the future,

but also to make it clear that Hong Kong is not a free place.

You do business in Hong Kong.

You do the business of the Chinese Communist Party.

Do I say that correctly, Mary?

Yeah, 100%. There really is no distinction between Hong Kong and the mainland anymore,

and I think we should really stop pretending that there is. Hutchison Wampoa is owned by

Rikashing. He's one of the most prominent tycoons in Hong Kong. His son, Victor Victor is also an executive director of the company. They made their
