based in Asia. We go now to a surprising headline given that the Cold War is over. The nuclear

Armageddon clocks minutes to midnight. That's behind us. That's history. Well, the headline,

Wall Street Journal, US stop sharing data on nuclear forces with Russia. The explanation.

This is the first action we have taken within the treaty in response to Russia's suspension,

a senior Biden administration official said, referring to the new star treaty that Russia

suspended its participation in in these recent days. I also mentioned the media report

that Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin have in some fashion said that they will be providing

Belarus an unstable dictatorship in the edge of NATO with tactical nukes. It's all very

unclear, but it's all about nuclear weapons that Vladimir Putin has routinely talked about

since the beginning of Ukraine conflict. Mary, this looks like the nuclear, the nuclear

weapon negotiations of the 20th century is all torn up and thrown away. How do you read

this news about the breakdown and information flow between the two states, US and Russia?

Well, I think you're right that we're entering a new kind of nuclear environment, one which

is appreciably more dangerous to all parties. And it's not for a lack of trying on Washington's

part to start dialogues. But the reality is that treaties are meaningless if the signatories

don't all agree to abide by their terms. And this is why the Trump administration pulled

out of a major arms control treaty with Russia because Russia was violating its terms.

And it's why we've seen this disintegration of the new star treaty because Russia wasn't

signed by its terms. China has studiously refused to enter into any discussions about
