The State Department is firing more than 1,300 civil and foreign service officers today.

That's according to an internal memo seen by CNN, and it comes as part of a dramatic overhaul of the agency.

Hundreds of offices and bureaus are being closed or altered because of the changes,

and the memo said in total, nearly 3,000 workers will be leaving.

And that number includes people who've already gone voluntarily.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump administration

to carry out mass layoffs and reorganizations across the federal government. President Donald Trump will visit Central Texas today to survey the damage from the deadly floods

that killed at least 120 people and left at least 160 missing around the region.

The governor of Texas has asked that more counties be added to the president's disaster declaration, which would allow

more eligible Texans to apply for grant funding for repair and recovery expenses. Meanwhile,

we're learning that first responders had major difficulties warning residents about the flooding.
