I am Karen Hunter and today I'm going to be talking about Squid Game.

Many of you who listen to me on the radio on Sirius XM, you know every Friday on Foolishness Friday,

I feature my top five, what to watch, hashtag KH, what to watch. I have a whole list of things

that I talk about, TV shows, series, movies, et cetera. Today I want to talk about Squid Game,

not chapter and verse about the actual show, but I want to talk about

you and I want to talk about me and our proclivities as human beings and using Squid Game as a point

of entry. But before I get to that, at some point I probably need to do a whole podcast on Huang Dong

Hyuk. I think that's how you say it, the director, the creator of Squid Game.

He started writing this back in 2009. He's been writing Squid Game for so long, and it got

rejected by 10 studios. He was pitching and pitching at some point. He had to stop writing

the script and sell his laptop for $675 so he could complete his project. And when he pitched it,

studios were like, nah, this is trash. Today, well, actually, when it first came out during the

pandemic, it was the number one show in more than 90 countries. Okay. So clearly he tapped into

something. And this is what I want to talk about today.

There's something about this series that really reveals a lot about our humanity or lack

thereof, what we're willing to do for money, what we're willing to do to other people for money,

what we're willing to do to our families for money. It is so wild when I watch it. And I thought, how could they duplicate

the frenzy of season one? Well, season two is out on Netflix and it does not disappoint. I'm not

going to give you any spoilers. But I do want to lean in. There is, and I think, episode one.

And I think this happened also in season one.

After we all know the very famous red light green light with a giant robot that turned around and flashed her eyeballs and people got shot.
