It's a sticky summer night in a popka, Florida, and you are a tween at your first sleepaway camp,

maybe you're 12, 13 years old.

You're worn out from a day of arts and crafts

and capture the flag.

And now you and your fellow campers are making your way to your cabins.

You're passing under gnarled live oak branches

dripping with Spanish moss. But there is one more ritual to complete. One more thing before you've had the perfect day at camp. You have to gather

around the fire and tell a ghost story.

Your camp counselor Blair Carlisle

actually has just the one.

Back when the camp was first started in the 50s there was a cafeteria lady who was like the best cook ever but she was like this old haggard lady who was like very scary and all the kids

would like make fun of her behind her back and were super mean to her and one night

there was a huge fire in the dining hall and everyone evacuated.

Except for the one woman from the cafeteria.

So the whole camp was sitting outside while the cafeteria burned hearing her scream inside the kitchen.

That night, the kids went to bed and the next morning they woke up and the kids who were especially cruel to her and mean to her found a spoon under their pillow.

They didn't know what it meant.

The next morning the cabin woke up and those kids who had had spoons under the pillows were gone.

They weren't their bunk.

And the whole camp there was a countywide search.

The police came, their helicopters, manhunts,

and no one ever found them again.
