passage today from Romans chapter 12 verse number nine because the apostle

Paul makes a pretty strong statement.

He says, Abhore what is evil.

Hold fast to what is good.

Now that word of ahore is not one we use in our culture very often, at least not in the Western

world.

We use words like hate or despise.

We don't use the word abhor.

And all of those are very strong words and I love that the

apostle Paul uses the word abhor instead of hate for example because it's a word

that has not had its meaning watered down.

Abhor really does mean to hate, it means to despise, it means to be just revulsed by what it is that you're looking at.

And in this case, he's saying we are to abhor what is evil.

Now notice a very careful distinction there. He's not saying, abhor people who do evil.

He's saying, abhor what is evil? Abhor the action, abhor the attitude, abhor the thing that produces it.

You see, this is a calling to holiness for God's people. We are to have our minds aligned with his and that's
