podcast as we move into soil microbiology. Now what is going on here? That's a

fancy word for basically what's happening in the soil. What is living in the

soil that your human eyes cannot see?

That would be bacteria, that would be fungus, and as we've learned on this week,

that would be algae. How does it all interplay and what are the benefits for the garden?

This is just a quick refresher episode.

Tomorrow we're going to be talking about some more downsides of algae potentially

and then finally we will finish off with a really interesting episode to cap off the week.

So without further ado, let's get into some soil microbiology.

Exactly. You know, and this kind of goes into the second or the the sixth question that we were starting to talk about what what's important to know about the soil microbiology and I thought about this one long and hard because this was I think this was fun of this the most fun question and and the thing to know about

so microbiology is that the soil is alive it's it really is it is an ecosystem where where you look at this ecosystem and the way we study ecosystems and

sciences we look at you know inputs and outputs of energy into the system and

then we look at the population dynamics inside of it and we consider you know for the subsurface in the

soil we're looking at you know primarily fungus bacteria and algae of the

microorganisms at least and we look at population immigration and emigration from that.

And when you look at that, you know, algae is a very important part of that ecosystem.

And again, that 20% of the microbial biomass

should be algae, and it's been largely overlooked.

And that's a big push about what we're doing at soilalgae.com is we're trying to shed light back on that algae, not just to be able to supply the algae to people, but we're also supplying culturing
