Darma, Buddha notes that it's not the painful events in life that cause the bulk of our suffering,

not the losses, the breakups, the setbacks and careers, the frustrations and

disappointments and our creative endeavors.

But it's actually the way we react to these events

that cause the bulk of our suffering.

In other words, we resist.

We try to deflect our attention away from the very natural, inevitable, emotional wounds of life.

And we try to essentially bury or repress, suppress, push down, repress, keep out of

awareness, negative emotions associated with disappointing events.

And again, it's not those disappointing events,

or even the primary emotions of sadness, anger, fear, and so forth that cause our suffering. It's the attempts to

suppress to get rid of, to bury, to compartmentalize to ward off these very natural emotional

responses, these affects that causes our suffering.

The Buddha noted that there's three ways.

One, we crave short-term pleasures,

if you know anything about neuropsychology sources of dopamine,

stimulants that make us feel good very quickly
