Summary

But first, I give a little book review of The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. The book illustrated some vital concepts that are often missing from our conversation on race. I share some highlights. Then, it's a voicemail segment during which I talk at length about a column a lot of people have been sharing lately. It's called When Progressives Embrace Hate and it talks about the leaders of the Women's March and their ties to some questionable people. 0:46.8

years late it's from 2010 but I think it's pretty vital I just want to talk about a couple

0:51.8

of the themes that I found very compelling that I think

0:55.6

inform a lot of the conversation that I have on this show about race.

1:01.5

So I think it's a very good book.

1:02.4

I highly recommend it.

1:03.2

Again, talk about a couple things. Also, I went into the voicemail segment and one of the messages,

1:10.0

they were all actually pretty short, but I launched into some diatribes, and I realized I started talking about that op ed, you may have seen, shared around the usual suspects,

1:21.0

entitled, when progressives embrace hate just came out yesterday, maybe the day before depending on when you're hearing this and it's about the leaders of the women's march.

1:31.6

I started going on to this whole

1:32.8

spiel about and I realized oh wait I should this is what the show should be about

1:36.3

because a lot of people saw that column and I think it would be a good thing to do some of a show on. So it's not the whole topic but it

1:44.2

really is in retrospect it's kind of the focus. So that's what I'm going to be

1:47.5

talking about later in addition to some other stuff, some other voicemails.

1:51.1

Love doing the voicemail segment.

1:53.3

Keep the good messages coming.

1:55.3

Keep them to the point, keep them interesting, and it's my favorite segment.

1:58.9

So let's get over to this book review thingy I'm going to do. So yeah, I just finished the new Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and I really just thought

2:21.1

it was so important that I wanted to talk about it because it really there's so much about it that I think

2:27.9

tells us why there's so many disagreements around race and why two sides of this conversation are not even really

2:35.1

conversing?
