One of the most destructive temptations leaders face is living and leading from the veneer of a "false self". In other words, we project an image of how we'd like to be perceived, rather than living from truth.
In today's podcast, I share a sermon from Colossians 3 that explores how we can overcome our false self and live out of our true self in Christ.

0:23.1 | And it particularly focuses on verse 9, which states, do not lie to each other since you have taken off your old self with its practices and put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge of the image of its creator. |

0:50.7 | It was a great problem for the Colossian Christians, and Paul goes after it. In fact, he actually |

1:04.4 | you'll hear me talk about a few of the symptoms of the false self as a continuum from mild to severe. |
1:09.9 | Things like when we're reluctant to admit our weaknesses and flaws to others |
1:15.1 | or when we're looking for approval to others more than we should, |
1:18.5 | or we're highly defensive or easily offendable when people criticize us, |
1:24.1 | we end up saying yes, much more than when we really actually want to say no. And we just |
1:29.9 | maybe have difficulty speaking up when we disagree with something or prefer something different. |
1:34.8 | Or playing it safe because we just want to be playing it safe because we're afraid, or just |
1:40.0 | not even paying attention to our body when we're stressed or tense rather than being in a |
1:44.5 | relaxed state with Jesus. So this is really about, when we talk about silencing the seductive |
1:50.3 | voice of your false self, we're talking about living from a new ground, a new center of being |
1:55.5 | loved, chosen, set apart, and allowing the love of Jesus to enfold us. |
2:01.6 | So again, this message will unpack what that looks like and how it transforms all of our relationships. |
