Good morning. It is Saturday, November the 1st. We are just three days away from the most anticipated off-year election in recent memory.

This will be the first general election since Donald Trump returned to the White House and launched a turbulent campaign of retribution against federal workers, against immigrants,

against its perceived political enemies, against many states and cities that are run by Democrats.

The list goes on.

A handful of races on the ballot have national implications, and they could also provide a snapshot

of how this country is feeling about

Donald Trump and the Republican majority in Congress one year since they were elected.

And there's no race that's more emblematic of the political moment we're in right now than the

race for the mayor of New York City. Back in June, the 34-year-old ascendant political outsider, Zoran Mamdani, shocked the

establishment when he won the Democratic primary against Andrew Cuomo, the former governor of

New York, who was once considered part of the future of the Democratic Party but was instead

forced to resign from office after he was accused of sexual harassment.

Mamdani handily beat him in the primary by nearly 13 points in the final round of the city's

ranked choice voting system.

But Mamdani's main challenger in the general election is not the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

It's Cuomo again, running as an independent in a bid to

keep his family's political dynasty going. The trend in all recent polls shows Mamdani holding a healthy

lead over both other candidates. A poll by Emerson, Picks 11 and the Hill, shows him with a commanding 25-point lead over Cuomo,

although that one does seem to be a bit of an outlier from some of the other polls.

Marist shows a similar result with Mamdani up by 16 points.

Quinepiak depicts a tighter race, Mamdani beating Cuomo by 10 points. Now, all of these polls

were conducted within the last week of October. Mabdani's lead is well outside the margin of error

...
