Good morning. It's Saturday, November 1st, and this morning, two very important deadlines are crashing into one another.

Today, open enrollment for health insurance plans on the Affordable Care Act marketplace begins, and enrollees might be in for a shock.

The sticker price for an annual premium could increase by 114% on average.

That's according to analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation, because subsidies for the ACA are set to expire at the end of the year.

Democrats have been ringing the alarm on this for months.

They've promised to withhold their votes to fund and reopen the government unless Republicans

agree to extend these subsidies, which they have not yet agreed to do. The other deadline,

today funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, what you may remember

as food stamps or you'll see at stores as

EBT stops. We're going to get into why SNAP is so crucial in the next hour of our show, but for now,

know this. 42 million Americans use it to help to afford to pay for their groceries. As of

today, their benefits are halted.

But a federal judge yesterday ordered the Trump administration to continue paying SNAP benefits,

concluding that, quote, irreparable harm will begin to occur if it hasn't already, end quote,

for Americans who struggle to afford food without SNAP. The president reacted last night, posting on his social media

site in part, quote, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the court to clarify how we can legally

fund SNAP as soon as possible. If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the court,

it will be my honor, all caps, to provide the funding, end quote.

Which is really weird, Donald Trump saying, oh, let's see if the courts can tell us how this works.

But whatever the process looks like, SNAP assistance will at least be delayed across the country.

Rising health care costs, not enough money from food, all while inflation holds relatively steady,

but still on the high side, and expected to rise because of Trump's continued tariff policies.
