And today we're talking about topping your peppers. Now I've talked a lot about pruning

pruning strategies for all sorts of different plants,

basil, tomato, etc.

But peppers we haven't touched on.

And in the pepper world, the pepper growers world,

it's called topping.

But the strategy is very similar, which we will go over in the episode.

And the question is, should you do it or should you not?

A lot of people will say, it really doesn't matter either way. You're going to get the same yield. But you know what? I'm going to defer to Jason who's betting his livelihood on it. This is a business that he runs. He grows and sells peppers and pepper seeds. So let's go ahead and tune in to what he has to say

about pepper pruning strategies. All right, I was just kidding. We are still here with Jason for one more episode because I realized I forgot to ask him one of the most popular questions when it comes to growing peppers and that would be pruning strategies and specifically something in in the pepper world known as as topping and so first of all I think maybe explain to some of us what topping is and then if you

could give us an overview of how you prune your peppers and the different advantages to the

different methods.

Sure.

Real popular subject and you see it everywhere that that

where you go about peppers. Basically what you do is it's the practice of cutting the pepper plant in half and making it produce additional

offshoots.

So the question is should you do it? What are the advantages? I'm a big fan of it. I've experienced extreme advantages to topping toping peppers.

Basically what you want to do when you're growing them inside,

when they're seedlings.

I like to wait until they're about, I don't know, 8 to 10 inches or, you know, 6 to 8 sets of leaves and you

want to cut them down two or three inches to about six inches, no less than six inches.
