What can grow? Rubarb. Rubarb grows in the dark, doesn't it? Forced rhubarb, I think it's called. Very popular in certain parts of Yorkshire, because it's so desperately reaching for the sunlight. The rhubarb strains every sinew to head ever higher. But generally speaking, you know, you starve something of oxygen or you deny something light and it withers and dies.
