And thank you for choosing to spend at least a few moments with me

this morning. I would like to begin with your permission with a brief contemplation on the meaning

of the word important, particularly in the context of the time that we spend together, hopefully

every day, although obviously it's still optional, inexplicably.

Three stories, just sort of off the top of my head, some of them you've heard Nick covering

already, and the simple question of which is the most important. I don't think that answer

admits, that question admits an easy answer, but just as a sort of illustration of where we are and what we do,

I thought it might be helpful today. So the first story is the latest attempts by the government to ease

some of the chaos caused by the complete failure to properly address the coronavirus crisis. Listen, I think the gamble is now pretty

clear. At some point, they're just going to have to, or they figured they were just going to have to

call off all bets. At some point, they figured that they figured correctly that we're just going to

have to take our chances. We can't carry in-out, in-out, in-out, shake it all about.

Even countries that did really, really well at the beginning, most obviously Vietnam,

have seen an appalling and an astonishing spike in cases.

So at some point, every country, ideally with the backdrop of widespread vaccination,

is going to have to take their chances.

And I can't come up with a better analysis of the current situation personally than they have,

they've rolled that dice far too early and far too carelessly.
