0:25.0	For the past years, it's been very easy to feel ashamed of America and ashamed of being Americans,
0:33.0	Donald Trump has shown this country in its worst light.
0:37.0	And it has felt exasperating how it can be
0:42.0	that so many people still support him, that so many people still look up to him.
0:48.0	Well, as somebody who studies populism in an international context, I have a slightly different view on that, because
0:54.7	populists actually tend to stay in office much longer than non-populist governments,
1:00.5	about twice as long. The number of populist governments that are still in office
1:04.6	after 10 years is about five times as high as the number of non-populist governments
1:10.3	that are still in office after so long.
1:12.8	In country after country which populists have taken over,
1:15.7	local political elites have said,
1:17.6	that guy, him, he won't last three months,
1:20.2	he doesn't know what he's doing.
1:21.6	And they've been wrong time and again.
1:24.4	Most worryingly there are very few cases in which populists lose re-election
1:31.6	after their first term in office. Now all of this is worrying. It means that
1:38.0	we should take polls according to it to Joe Biden is about to win, is very likely to win in November with a pinch of sort.
1:46.0	We should be aware of the longevity of populace even when they do leave after their first term.
1:52.0	Sylvia Bellowskoney lasted in office for about a year,
1:55.0	had to go into opposition and then dominated Italian politics
1:58.0	for the next two decades.
