The Bible actually has a lot of verses in it about alcohol.

In the Old Testament, two kinds of intoxicating drinks are often mentioned side by side.

There's the word for wine, Yain, which of course is made from fermented

grapes, and there's the Hebrew word Shikar, which is often translated as strong drink. This was a

stronger alcoholic beverage made from grain, so think of beer made from barley, for example.

It could also be made from fruits like dates or figs. These kinds of drinks are also talked about in the New Testament.

Wine is a key part of Jesus' first miracle in John's Gospel at the wedding in Cana,

and in Luke chapter 1 verse 15, we read of John the Baptist,

He will be great before the Lord, and he must not drink wine or strong drink,

and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's

womb. So, John the Baptist, abstained from wine and strong drink. Does that mean you should

too? Is it wise for a Christian to drink alcohol? So it's one thing to recognize you have the freedom to do something as a follower of Jesus,

but whether or not it's the best thing for you or wise, given your circumstances or proclivities,
