Summary

Get Your Mother’s Journal TODAY There’s always that woman you admire. The one stepping into bold, meaningful work while you’re still sitting with your coffee, wondering if you’re even allowed to start. We all have her in our minds—the woman who seems braver, more polished, more prepared. But here’s the truth most people miss: she’s probably not more qualified than you. She’s just more willing to try. Today I’m recording my 500th episode, and I can promise you this—if I had waited until I felt fully ready, this show would never have existed. Not one episode. Not one conversation. Not one life changed. No fancy studio. No perfect plan. Just cardboard boxes stacked around me, a cheap microphone, and the courage to begin before I felt qualified. And that tiny, imperfect start turned into a podcast that’s reached millions. If you’re searching for the courage to begin, or Googling “how to start before you’re ready,” let me save you some time: readiness is a myth. Confidence grows from action, not the other way around. Today I’m sharing what 500 episodes taught me about starting scared, showing up imperfectly, and choosing obedience over overthinking. Because the gap between where you are and where you want to be isn’t talent or training—it’s willingness.   Timestamps:   (05:14) - The Truth About That Woman You Admire: She’s Not More Qualified, Just More Willing to Try (05:26) - The Lie We Believe About Being “Qualified” Before We Begin (07:18) - The Real Superpower: Why Willingness Beats Talent Every Time (08:00) - Feeling Behind? God has never once looked at someone who felt unqualified and said, yeah, you're right, sit this one out.

That's not how he works.

You know that woman you admire, the one doing big, brave things, maybe she's building something meaningful or she's showing up consistently

0:22.6

while you're still wondering if you're allowed to start. Here's the truth. She's probably not more

0:28.3

qualified than you. She's just more willing to try. I'm recording my 500th episode today, 500.

And if I had waited until I felt fully confident, until I had the

0:41.0

right equipment and the perfect plan and some kind of permission slip from the universe,

0:45.8

two million women wouldn't have heard this message. Two million women wouldn't have been

0:50.3

encouraged every week or learned practical tools or change their lives, this show wouldn't

0:56.1

exist because I would still be waiting to feel ready. I'm going to explain, but first, let me share.

Okay, let's dive in. The Secret to 500 episodes isn't a degree or a fancy studio or some special anointing that

1:12.6

other people have access to. The secret is cardboard boxes and a cheap microphone and being

1:19.0

gutsy enough to begin. When I first started this podcast in May of 2018, I had a really

1:25.5

crappy microphone, like embarrassingly bad. The kind of microphone that makes

1:30.1

you sound like you're recording from inside a 10 can during a windstorm. If you're wondering,

1:34.5

it was a blue Yeti. No one should use those. I see influencers on TikTok use them all the time,

1:39.1

and I shake my head. To make it sound halfway decent, I set up cardboard boxes in a big U shape around my desk and draped blankets over them.

1:47.6

That was my studio.

1:49.2

Luckily, it was just audio back then.

1:50.7

There was no video.

1:51.4

Blankets and cardboard and a prayer and a lot of determination.

1:56.6

But here's the part that still makes me a little sick to my stomach.
