Shamir has bipolar disorder and has spent time in an inpatient facility after a breakdown.

Shamir is non-binary and has said in the past that he does not have a preferred pronoun, though

he's more comfortable with he, him, than they, them.

Shamir grew up in Las Vegas, and his home included his mother's twin sister, who was a songwriter and a

ranger, always had musicians around the house playing and recording songs.

Shamir has become known for a music that's kind of a combination of house music, hip-hop, disco,

but when he first started making his own stuff, it was something pretty different.
