It is also the feast day of a great modern saint, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we have been talking about the ways

that we are called to love people as Christians. We are called to offer service and to seek

justice. On the first day, we talked about how service and justice are like two feet that we are called to walk on

as Christians. Yesterday we talked about how human dignity is the key to seeking justice for others

in this world. And today, with the help of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, we are going to talk about our call to

serve others. First of all, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta is a great saint because she lived in

this world that we live in. She didn't live hundreds of years ago.

She only recently died.

And before she died, she founded a great order of nuns called the Sisters of Charity.

The Sisters of Charity lived in the poorest of poor places.

And they continue to live there today. they live a life of prayer and service

they seek out those that are sick and dying those living in the street those dying without

anyone there to help them they take them them, they nurse their wounds, they pray with them, they serve them, and ultimately

they love them.

Mother Teresa herself, the founder of this great order, oftentimes did the lowest, the dirtiest

jobs, like cleaning toilets or cleaning out

stinky wounds from people that were poor and dying.

And yet she did every act out of love.
