Summary

In part two of the ‘Self-Mastery’ series, Pastor Erwin McManus brings a powerful message on the importance of attaining mastery over our thoughts. From the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Pastor Erwin reveals that our minds are the invisible place where our most significant battles take place.

He reminds us that seeking mastery over our thoughts is a spiritual act. God designed us to ‘take every thought captive,’ so that we would not allow a negative thought to take root in our minds. Every thought that does not call us to more is not a thought that aligns with God’s design for us!

This message gives you the tools and encouragement you need to help you take control of your mindset.

Last week we began unwrapping the concept of self-mastery and what are the characteristics of

0:34.4

women and men who demonstrate resilience, perseverance, the ability to see things through who don't

0:41.2

just start well but actually finish well and and even in a very practical everyday way to talk

0:47.6

about this dynamic of discipleship. What does it look like when a person becomes a fully mature

0:54.0

follower of Christ? What does it look like to become a fully mature human being? I think that

0:59.7

sometimes we over-spiritualize the components to what it means to be a healthy human and I cannot

1:07.6

over-enphasize the importance of prayer of being in the scriptures, of living in community and

1:15.6

being a part of a church community like Mosaic. All these are really vibrant and essential to your

1:21.6

spiritual health. What I'm really focusing on is this dynamic of self-mastering and we began

1:30.3

by looking in the first session at the responsibility that all of us have for our lives, for our

1:36.8

life-chains, that a fundamental characteristic of those people who find the resilience and have

1:42.6

the resilience to face all kinds of circumstances and challenges is that they take ownership

1:48.4

over their lives and and if I didn't say clearly enough last week without ownership, nothing will

1:53.9

change. If you do not take ownership over your life, you will not see the change you hope for.

2:00.8

You can pray for it, you can ask God over and over again, you can read the Bible as much as you want,

2:06.4

you can go to church until they throw you out and close the doors but if you do not take ownership

2:13.7

over your life, your life will not change. Now over the last 20 years, that has been a growing

2:21.4

field that has been researching our mindsets, that researches not only our mental health but our

2:27.5

mental resilience and the relationship of how we think to how we live and this is so essential
