In episode forty-nine of The Running Effect (with Dominic Schlueter), I speak with my good friend Sean McGorty.

In this episode, we go through Sean's crazy past year. In 2021, he got his feet wet (pun intended) in a new event the steeplechase, underwent his second-ever Achilles surgery, and narrowly fell short of making his first Olympic team.

I personally can't wait to see all that Sean has in store for 2022 and beyond! A quote from Winston Churchill that I think embodies Sean's mindset well, "Success is going from failure to failure without any loss of enthusiasm". Sean has sacrificed so much to get to the level he's at now and continues to have a positive and contagious attitude. He's gone through two massive Achilles surgeries, missed an Olympic team, and battled other adversity, but yet still keeps on fighting. Sean's fighting spirit is one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen.

Welcome to this week's episode of the Running Effect with Dominic Schleader. I'm your host

0:07.7

Dominic. And on today's show, we have a reoccurring guest, The Man, the Myth, the Legend, Sean

0:13.2

McGordy. He's back, baby. So he came on the podcast, I believe his episode was like episode 22 or something. And in that episode,

0:22.9

we went through his backstory in the sport. So I highly recommend that show for anyone who doesn't

0:28.0

really know his upbringing in the sport because that was a really good deep dive into how he got

0:33.0

his start in the sport and his earlier years in running. But in today's show, we go through his big

0:38.7

2021, which included him starting a new event, which was the steeple chase, him narrowly missing

0:46.6

out on his Olympic dream of making the Olympics, him having another big Achilles surgery.

0:53.2

And then just overall, his thoughts on many different subjects.

0:56.0

Sean is a super, super smart guy and never fails to dish out some amazing advice.

1:03.0

And he definitely has a lot of great insight on a lot of things that happened to him last year.

1:08.0

So at least personally, I took a lot out of this

1:12.8

episode, and I hope you will as well. And then we also go into this new year, 2022. He just ran

1:19.5

1309 at the Boston meet. I believe it was the Boston Valentine meet. And in that race, he also saw

1:26.8

his teammates break the American, British, and Canadian records. So meet and in that race he also saw his teammates break the

1:27.8

American, British, and Canadian records. So we go through that race as a whole him

1:32.2

running 1309 and then kind of do a small deep dive into what it's like to run for the

1:37.2

Bowerman track club and how cool it is to have these incredible teammates to push him

1:42.3

every single day. So we go through that and what that means to him.

1:45.9

And then we also top off the show with three fun rapid fire questions where we go through

1:51.0

lots about Chick-fil-A, who's the biggest one-steper on Bowerman. And if he was on a deserted island

1:57.7

and could only bring three things, what they would be. So I hope you enjoy this
