Summary

Are you the family scapegoat? Are you punished for telling the truth in a dysfunctional family? Although it may not feel like it, truthtellers and scapegoats are healthy. It is unhealthy to deny the truth, suppress it, and run from it. On the other hand, truthtellers and scapegoats can't help but see the truth. However, when you are born to emotionally immature parents, narcissistic or alcoholic parents, you might be punished for being a truthteller and become the family scapegoat. Listen in as Lisa A. Romano the Breakthrough Life Coach helps you understand how to honor yourself as a truthteller turned family scapegoat.

0:56.1

family or carries the shame of the family. What I mean by that is that when you come from a toxic

1:01.4

family, the core of the family is denial. We don't talk about our sister who has a drug addiction,

1:07.7

or we don't talk about the fact that mommy's brother is married to a woman

1:13.5

who is having an affair with Uncle Jack and Uncle Jack is married. We don't talk about those stuff,

1:20.4

that stuff. We don't talk about the fact that mommy is popping pills and Daddy is an alcoholic

1:26.0

or that there is an affair happening in the house.

1:28.7

We don't talk about these things in our family. It's like hush, hush. We don't talk about

1:34.0

when we see people being abusive in the family. We're not allowed to talk about that. So in a toxic

1:41.1

family system, basically the issue is denial, right? It's there. It's the elephant in the

1:46.2

room, but the adults in the room don't know how to handle it. They don't have the life skills or

1:51.6

the coping skills to deal with it, to face it head on. They wouldn't know what to do. If they did face it,
