Summary
At 4 o'clock in the morning, while most Americans were asleep, four Republican senators crossed the floor and voted with every single Democrat to kill voter ID legislation. I want to talk about who they are, why they did it, and what it tells us about the people we send to Washington

| 0:00.0 | Well, ladies and gentlemen, in the wee hours of the morning, Republicans actually tried to get the SAVE Act passed. |
| 0:07.0 | That's right. There was an attempt to attach it to must fund DHS legislation. |
| 0:13.5 | And for Republicans actually broke ranks in order to join the Democrats and stop them from doing so. |
| 0:19.4 | So what we're going to talk about now is we're going to give a very, very brief |
| 0:21.9 | synopsis of what exactly the SAVE Act is and specifically what was trying to be |
| 0:27.0 | attached to this particular piece of legislation. |
| 0:29.7 | Then what we're going to do is we're going to talk about the four senators who voted |
| 0:32.2 | know and what their potential motivations are. |
| 0:35.0 | And then finally we're going to talk about some of the other ways that the |
| 0:38.8 | SAVE Act could theoretically be implemented, right? Because that's the interesting part here, |
| 0:44.9 | is that there are some other mechanisms potentially at the disposal of other entities within |
| 0:50.9 | the government that could, let's just say, achieve some of the same objectives |
| 0:54.7 | but through other means. All right? So that's what we're going to talk about. First things first, |
| 0:58.4 | the SAVE Act or the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act would have required every person |
| 1:03.7 | registering to vote in a federal election to show documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, |
| 1:09.8 | a passport, a birth certificate, something like that. |
| 1:13.1 | And when you cast your ballot, you would have to show a photo ID. That's it, right? That's effectively |
| 1:19.3 | the bill. So when you register to vote, you have to bring documentation like a birth certificate, |
| 1:24.7 | passport, et cetera, because that establishes that you are, in fact, a |
| 1:28.6 | United States citizen. And then once you have been effectively registered, now all you need is a |
| 1:34.5 | photo ID to vote. And again, this gave the state's wide latitude in order to assist voters in this |
| 1:40.1 | process because a lot of people are complaining, oh my gosh, I don't know where my passport is, |
