Has the Department of Justice just dropped a bombshell on what was considered one of the leading

0:07.2

civil rights organizations in the country?

0:09.3

Or does the Southern Poverty Law Center actually have a pretty good explanation for why they

0:15.4

were doing the things that they're doing?

0:18.1

That's what we're going to be talking about today.

0:19.8

First things first, let's talk

0:21.0

about what the actual accusations were by the Department of Justice, because it's pretty extensive.

0:27.4

So if you look at it here, the Justice Department announces an indictment against the Southern

kind of holding itself up as the arbiter of what a hate group is or what a hate crime is.

1:13.7

They're the guys you're supposed to go to to not only get legal representation for this stuff, but they've become incredibly involved in the activist world when it comes to crafting legislation, when it comes to educating students on these things.

1:25.7

SPLC holds themselves up as the gold standard. And so obviously,

1:31.9

an indictment like this could theoretically destroy the organization. And seriously,

1:37.5

calling the question why the organization exists. So here's some of the examples that led to the

1:43.3

indictment.

1:48.5

So the SPLC sequel to paid members of white supremacist groups and extremist groups,

1:52.3

including National Alliance affiliate, which they paid $1 million to,
