These aren't things we talk about on the Lovecast very often or like ever.

We're going to talk about them today.

Our story today takes us to Noblesville, Indiana,

where Ryan Policoff owns a woodworking business in Noblesville called Woodturnings,

with a Z, wood turnings. Late last year, Ryan closed a big deal with city officials and another

local business, Texan towel and supply, that would have meant both businesses,

successful local, small town businesses, both would build new headquarters in Noblesville,

creating a bunch of temporary jobs for construction workers and keeping the jobs these men have

already created in town and adding more as these businesses expanded in Noblesville. Polikov was prepared to spend

$5 million on a new building. Texantal was prepared to spend $5.5 million, and both businesses

pay above Indiana's median wage to keep these job creators in town. The city offered property tax abatements, corporate subsidies,

that amounted to $1 million per business over the next eight years. Doesn't sound like much in the

days of trillion dollar federal spending bills, but that's a lot of money in Noblesville, Indiana.

And Ryan Polikoff says he couldn't expand the business without that

tax break. It just didn't pencil out without that tax break. Why do I know anything about this?
