I was that guy.

But it was because I looked at my emails. I looked at my savage love mails on my phone. And there was a very distressed email from a young person,

young gay man who just came out to his family. And it wasn't going well. Wasn't going the way he had

hoped it would go. And so if you will allow me a little

coming out 101, I know we've covered this. Sometimes I think, well, I wrote a column coming out

101 20 years ago before this kid that I ended up in an email exchange with on Sunday at the gym

before he was born. Didn't he read that column? I talked about this seven, eight years ago on the Lovecast. Why wasn't he listening to the Lovecast before he hit puberty and realized he was gay? So there are new listeners, new readers all the time. Some of them are young. Some of them haven't dug through the archives. And if you'll indulge me regular readers and listeners, I'm going to do a little coming out one-on-one for those guys. It is important to remember when you come out that the skies aren't going to open and the sun isn't going to shine and you're not going to look down and Ryan Gosling is going to be sucking your dick because that never happens first because Ryan Gosling is straight, Ryan Gosling doesn't suck dicks. And it has never happened that somebody comes out and they look down and there's Ryan Gossling sucking their dick. So if that's your

expectation that everything is going to be wonderful and glorious the instant you come out,

I'm here from the future to tell you that that's not typically how it works, unfortunately.

Sometimes people come out to their conservative families and get the reaction they did not expect.

They get support from their conservative families.

Or conservative families pull 180s.

Again, that empathy gap we talk about with conservatives and Republicans, your kid came out as gay.

Fuck you and fuck your fag kid.
