This weekend in the United Kingdom, a pro-hardline Brexit Tory member of parliament was turfed out, lost an election to a liberal dem who is pro-Europe.

That was a little good sign, a little twinkling of hope there in the United Kingdom.

And then in Austria, where a hard-right neo-Nazi-ish leader of a party founded by former

members of Hitler's SS in Austria, hard right wing, anti-European,

anti-immigrant, pro-reassembling somehow the Austro-Hungarian Empire, lost an election to the

former member of the Green Party.

The Green Party in Europe is actually a party that elects people up and down the ballot,

doesn't just run people for president, but can run someone for president once in a while and legitimately run

someone for president and win an election because they're an actual political party, not a stunt,

which is what they are here. Anyway, file under bitter irony, the Nazi lost the election in Austria by the same percentage that Donald Trump lost the popular vote here in the United States.

So the Nazi in Austria is not going to be the president of Austria or the neo-Nazi or the leader of the party founded by Nazis.

It's not going to be the president of Austria because Austria does not have an anti-democratic electoral college.

Austria has a functioning parliamentary democracy.

Good for Austria.

Another silver lining there.
