If you're stuck in a relationship quandary, or if you're looking for sexual harmony,

well, there's nothing you can't pass on the Savage Lovecast. In her speech to the 2008 Republican National Convention, Sarah Palin quoted a writer.

She didn't name a writer.

She just quoted the writer.

She said, a writer observed, we grow good people in our small towns with honesty, sincerity, and dignity.

And she went on to say that people in these small towns love their country and good times

and bad. They're always proud of America and that she herself had lived all of her life in a small

town. It came out later who the writer was that Sarah Palin was quoting at that moment.

He was a guy named Westbrook Pegler and he was a fascist.

He was an anti-Semite.

He was a racist in the 1950s and 60s.

And in 1965, this fascist writer, Westbrook Pegler, called for the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, saying that if

Kennedy ran for president, Robert F. Kennedy, which he did do, some white patriot of the

southern tier will splatter his spoonful of brains in public premises before the snow flies.

Robert F. Kennedy was, of course, later assassinated during his campaign

for the president after winning the California primary. And that's the dude, Sarah Palin quoted,

praising small towns and the people who grow there. Sarah Palin's comments,

invoking this fascist leapt to mind somehow last week when I was watching the Republicans' debate from South Carolina,

particularly leapt to mind when I was watching Ted Cruz attempt to defend his indefensible comments about New York City.
