Shortly after I moved to Seattle many, many years ago, 25-ish years ago, I was walking to meet some friends at a bar through kind of a sort of derelict, sort of strange part of town crossing over a freeway when I noticed this person was following me.

And my gut instinct was you're about to get robbed and you should run. And I didn't want to,

I don't know, I didn't want to make the person who I thought might be following me feel like I thought

they might be following me so I didn't run. And then that person

caught up to me, pulled a knife on me and demanded my wallet and my jacket. I had a leather jacket

at the time that I liked to wear that I got in Berlin that had tremendous sentimental value for me.

Got in West Berlin when I moved there a few years before that. And I took off running then. And the

person with a knife chased me and didn't overtake me.

At one point, they stumbled and dropped their knife.

And I made it into a bar, made it into the bar that I was running to.

So they didn't cut my throat and take my jacket and my wallet.

And I had a regret.

I regretted that that moment where I noticed this person following me that I didn't take off running then, that I didn't react then.

I didn't cross-as.

I didn't do anything.

You know, it was just to inhibit it.

And I didn't trust my gut.

And I regretted that.

There was another time where I was a teenager wandering through a warren of underground tunnels in Chicago.
