We've spoken every once in a while on the show about the appalling human rights violations going on in Russia.

And what's being done to the LGBT community in Russia, a series of anti-gay laws have been passed that have basically criminalized being openly gay.

They're called anti-gay propaganda laws.

No one is allowed to say anything.

No one at all, gay, lesbian, bi, trans, or straight is allowed to say anything in public

that could be construed as pro-gay, make any sort of statement, any speech, and to be out

and gay and fine about it is

considered speech.

And this is all under the guise of protecting children from being recruited.

It's all packaged as an anti-pedophile campaign.

And it has led to all sorts of really appalling human rights violations in Russia, people

being beaten in the streets and then arrested.

Not the people who beat the person being arrested, but the person who was beaten up being arrested.

Gay pride parades have been banned in St. Petersburg for a hundred years.

An identical law was passed in Moscow, banning gay pride parades for a hundred years.

There's appalling videos online. For example, a guy holds up a rainbow flag with a statement out that says, I support tolerance, and he is beaten up by a crowd of Russian paratroopers and then hauled away by the police. Other laws are allegedly rumored to be in the offing that would remove children from the

homes of their parents if their parents were gay or lesbian. People are beginning to flee

Russia, queer people are fleeing Russia and claiming asylum in nations like Canada and the United
