A lot of news happening overnight, including those protests from coast to coast,

huge numbers of Americans in the streets demanding change as the Trump administration

immigration crackdown rolls on.

Also that voter anger playing out on Capitol Hill, a partial government

shutdown taking effect overnight as Congress works on bills to fund the government, and Democrats

demand reforms on ice roundups. More on that just ahead. We do, but we are going to begin here

with that major winter storm blasting the South. More than 160 million Americans under alert

for dangerous cold, with millions more getting

ready for snow. And ABC's Christiane Cordero has the latest now from Virginia Beach, a very cold

Virginia Beach. Good morning, Christian. Hey, Gio, good morning. Cold, and you can really start

to feel that wind pickup here in Virginia Beach. That bridge that you see right behind me is one of the heavily

pre-treated roads. We're told that it's a high priority road in part because it's a major route to and from a local hospital,

which really gives you an idea of what's at stake for cities and towns nationwide ahead of this storm.

This morning, more than 160 million Americans at risk for life-threatening cold as another

winter storm takes aim at the southeast.

Heavy lake-effect snow creating white-out conditions in Michigan, making driving conditions

treacherous.

Winter storm warnings issued from Georgia to Virginia ahead of expected whiteout conditions.

Parts of the Carolinas could get up to a foot of snow.

Georgia's governor declared a state of emergency.
