I'm Robbie Gupta.

And today we're going to talk to Jeff Asher, who is probably the most trusted person in media in reporting on crime statistics.

He has a substack and he's received a grant from the Arnold Foundation just to parse through the thorny questions around,

you know, is coming up, is calm down? Are there regional differences? Are there urban,

rural differences, et cetera? So we're going to talk about all of that in a second, but before we

get there. I will be commenting on, obviously, the Trump administration just took office. I'll have more

to say on this later this week. I'm parsing myself through all of the executive orders and everything

going on, and I'm going to try my best to hold up and pick the most important and surprising elements

of what Trump has done in these early days of his administration.

So stay tuned for that. Also would be remissive I didn't say something about this past Sunday where

my Buffalo Bills eeked out a very uncomfortable win against the Ravens. And just to give you a sense

of how I watch sports, I love the bills so much that I

can't even watch them anymore. I get so anxious. So I actually am here in Costa Rica. I left my phone

at home. I went to a sound meditation, which was an hour and a half, and the whole experience

took me about two and a half hours to get there, do the thing, come back. And I timed it so that I would get home and I would just want a result. I just wanted to know what would happen in the game without having to go through the ups and downs. But I missed timed everything. And so I get home and see my phone is blown up where people are like giving me very alarm text. This is basically the start of the fourth quarter where the bill's at a very bad third quarter and seemed to be blowing the game. This is exactly what I did not

want to have happened. And just to give you a sense of how crazy I am, I then turn everything off and I

start watching the Netflix show American Prime Evil, which is basically a show about people

murdering each other in Utah in the 1800s.

Great show, by the way. And I told myself, all right, you're going to watch this for 20 minutes

and you're putting it on a timer. And by the 20 minutes, the game will be over and you'll have an

answer. I lasted all of like three or four minutes. But I'm so crazy that I then started looking at my text messages because I couldn't look at the game.
