This is John Batchler. Consumer confidence at an all-time low, we're told. And speaking with my colleague, Gene Marks, about this,

Gene sees the consumer confidence number not really indicative of where we are in spending,

especially spending for our senior citizens called the boomers. Here's Gene to explain. More of this tonight.

Well, it depends on how the surveys are given, but you are right about the spending. I mean,

boomers are spending. There was a great piece in the Wall Street Journal this past week about

how the middle class is shrinking because so many more people are moving to the upper middle class.

You know, the number of millionaires in this country has increased significantly.

And again, there are obviously, there are always people suffering, you know, and there's always

people in lower income levels that are struggling to get by. But, you know, it's a big country,

and there's definitely more than one economy going on. And, you know, it's a big country and there's definitely more than one

economy going on. And, you know, you've got people out there that, like you just said,

the boomers and lots of millennials that I know, my, you know, I mean, my kids and their friends

are spending on travel and doing their thing. I mean, there's just a, there's a couple of economies going on right now, which is why whenever I hear this whole consumer sentiment survey, I just, I really don't know if they're really hitting the right sample size and across your diverse, you know, number of people that they're talking to
