This is John Batchel, a conversation with colleague Liz Peake about the markets responding dramatically,

0:06.5

melodramatically, to the suggestion that AI is going to not only cost jobs among white color and blue color,

0:15.3

but also cost the major commitment to software, for example, or scheduling or companies that ship change major parts of their business model and replace them, in fact.

0:31.9

And Wall Street's washing these sharp sell-offs as the rumors spread.

0:37.7

There's no guarantee to this, but the rumors are spreading quicker than you can get out front.

0:43.3

Liz says people are looking for a place to hide because everybody's in Mag 7 stocks in all directions.

0:50.3

So what is to be done if Mag 7 is going to be, or as the Wall Street Journal put it, the bullish case for AI is bearish for everybody else, maybe.

0:59.6

Here's Liz to explain.

1:02.9

And I think you can look at so many industries now in the last, really it's just been two or three weeks like software logistics companies etc where all

1:11.8

of a sudden there's a spotlight on some new uh development AI development software development

1:18.9

coding development which means that a logistics company they're the the heart of that industry is no

1:25.8

longer necessary or can be done by bots and not people.

1:31.1

So, you know, you just take two or three industries and, you know, these industries sell off

1:37.2

enormously and all of a sudden you have people looking around poking under every rock possible.

1:43.8

So that's one major

1:46.2

anxiety that affects almost everyone who's in the stock market because everybody has had to be in

1:50.6

these stocks, the Mag 7 and ancillary companies, companies involved with nuclear power and

1:57.8

various kinds of energy and all kinds of building data centers and so forth.

2:02.2

That's just a huge part of the market right now and everybody is exposed to it.

2:07.6

So of course they're looking for alternatives.
