I'm John Betts with my colleague and friend Jeff Bliss is Pacific Watch.

The governor's race in California.

This is, I think, called a jungle primary in which the two top contenders, no matter

their party affiliation, become the finalists for the vote.

And Jeff, you sent me a list of the contentions, contenders and their percentages

in polling. And Jeff, this doesn't look right. There are two Republicans at the top. That's

certainly a distortion. What's happened? I think that's the early numbers. And there's,

the Democrats are having problems in California,

even though it's a completely blue state. But the thinking is this will be turned around. And right

now, Eric Swalwell, the congressman from California from the Bay Area, is the top Democratic contender.

And he always has a lot of money from behind him because he's a Pelosi boy.

And so the thinking is that he will definitely emerge as one of the top contenders.

Now, who's going to be number two?

Hard to say.

The Republicans are pushing Steve Hilton, the former Fox co-host, and Chad Bianco,

who's the sheriff of Riverside, who's very conservative, very, you know,

very tough guy. But I don't see any of the Democrats emerging unless for some reason

Katie Porter gets some wind under her wings and gets up there. But right now it looks like

Swalwell and somebody from the Republican Party. But Republicans have blown leads before here, for sure.

And we're not talking about overwhelming.

I think you showed me that the leading Republican candidate, Mr. Hilton, has 17%.

So, and if you bundle all of the Democrats together, they're well over 50%. So I don't expect anything
