I'm John Batchel. I welcome my good colleague and friend Peter Berkowitz of the Hoover

Institution,

writing his column for Real Clear Politics, observing an interview between a CNN VIP and Stephen Miller,

the White House Deputy Chief of Staff. Mr. Miller, I understand it, speaks often about the present controversy over immigration

and the contest between the ICE enforcers and the people of Minneapolis and Minnesota.

But there are other opinions that Mr. Miller has expressed in time, and Peter takes from this interview with Jake Tapper, the VIP from CNN,

and looks at the way Mr. Miller sees his role leading the United States and a very powerful chair next to the president of the United States.

Remember, power in Washington is often called face time, how much time

you spend with the commander-in-chief. And as far as I can tell, Mr. Miller's there a lot of,

a lot of the hours that the office is open. Peter, a very good evening to you. My first question

Why did you use this particular interview?

What attracted you the most in the conversation between Mr. Miller and CNN?

Good evening, John. What prompted me to write was, in a way, the unusual character here of the conversation.

Stephen Miller had gone on Jake Tapper's CNN show to discuss the United States extraordinary military operation,

seizing Nicholas Maduro,

spiriting him and his wife off, and bringing them to a jail in Brooklyn.

But instead of confining himself to an account of the military operation,

instead of confining himself to an analysis of the legal and tactical justification for it,

or even larger strategic justification, Stephen Miller held forth on a great question

of morals and politics that has been occupying human beings since people

first began thinking about power and justice.
