I'm John Batchel with Elizabeth Peake, and we go from commenting on the American economy to American politics.

Minnesota.

Minnesota voted for Walter Mondale.

No one else did in 1984.

Minnesota gives us Hubert Humphrey a leader in the Democratic Party for civil rights in the late 40s, as I recall, a vice president of

United States, a man who ran hard for the presidency in 68 and came close. And Minnesota has now

give us a number of very strong voices that are not even quite purely democratic. There is a

mixture of progressivism, of farming. It's an unusual

state and good for it. However, these last days, Liz, your thoughts about Minnesota. It looks

like there's an attempt here to nationalize a tragedy. And that is my reading of the first time it was possible to do that, was during the pandemic,

and it happened with the Floyd case.

It was nationalized and it led to a lot of decision making.

I don't see the same path followed here, but Minnesota, what is, what do you make of Minnesota's

demonstration of itself as the dissenting state?

What do they get out of it, Liz?

Well, I think this pushback against ice, obviously the death of this woman who, without a doubt, drove her car into an ice agent is a tragedy.

Every human life lost is a tragedy.

But she is not an innocent person who just happened to be in the wrong place at the

wrong time.

She was fomenting resistance.

This is the great resistance movement against President Trump. And I think people have lost sight

totally of the fact that what they are resisting is law enforcement. ICE is just like resisting
