This is CBS Iron the World. I'm John Batchel. The headlines. Trump orders blockade of

sanctioned oil tankers in and out of Venezuela. Subhead. President's announcement further escalates

pressure on country's leader, Nicholas Maduro.

Blockade is U.S. Navy. The fatilla, now a sizable fatala, even a fleet off the coast of

Venezuela, includes the super, supercarrier Gerald Ford, lots of missile boats, lots of routine

Navy and marine exercises in Puerto Rico in preparation

for perhaps being ordered into Venezuela. In the meantime, the blockade is now in action. It's a

selective blockade, we're told, just the sanctioned oil tankers that are traveling to Cuba and China mostly.

The question, however, is when you blockade sanctions, you need inspection.

You need a lot of attention from the fleet.

And the fleet has a job around the world all the time to maintaining navigation on the seas, open navigation from being harassed by

adversaries. I'm emphasizing all of this because there's a new report that is at odds with the

demands that the President and the United States is now putting on the fleet. That is the retirement

of a very famous national asset named Nimitz.

I think of the Nimitz as the Battlestar Galactica.

You will all recall in that very famous science fiction story over many seasons, Battlestar

Galactica was to be retired because it had old technology. It wasn't networked in with the fleet.
