This is John Batchelor. Colleague, Edmund Fitton Brown, from the Foundation of Defense of Democracies,

has a good idea about how to clear up the Strait of Hormuz, which is to define it as the story,

not the nuclear waste weapons, not the arsenal of missiles, not the depredations of the neighborhood, but the

straight of Hormuz, make that the centerpiece and bring in the allies and open it up.

And that will contribute to the deterioration of the regime. Its perception right now is that

it's powerful. It is not. Here's Edmund

to explain. More of this tonight. So there's always an analysis that says that if you have a country

that dedicates itself to your destruction for 45 years, more than 45 years, you know, that that's,

that's an intolerable situation. And so, you know,

do you just simply go back to that sort of phony war that I referred to earlier and wait for the

Iranians to have their next go at a nuclear weapon or whatever it is in a few years time? Or indeed,

it's sort of continuing to tighten the net on Israel to the point where Israel is existentially threatened or life in Israel becomes intolerable.

So, you know, those are sort of just realities we have to accept.

And it may be that in the past we have been too tolerant of just saying, well, for goodness sake, this is so difficult that let's keep the

Iranian threat sort of at arm's length. And that way, you know, eventually the Islamic Republic

will fall and it'll be somebody else or it'll be somebody else's problem. And of course,

that didn't happen. So the question is, is there a way out of where we are right now? I think there's always a way out. The question is, can you produce a viable way out? I think the US has to impose its will over the Strait of Hormuz. I think that should be the organizing principle here. You can get the international community together on this because everybody agrees that

the Ukrainians have no right to close the straight.
