I'm John Batchel. And I go immediately to Sail Bay on the California coast, north of San Diego,

0:25.6

south of everything else in California. And on remote is our man at Sail Bay, Big Cohoon,

0:33.9

Jeff Bliss, his Pacific Watch. He has assured me that he will survive this conversation with the tide coming in.

0:43.2

I'm a California rookie, so I immediately look for great white sharks and forcas and other beasts.

Jeff tells me that we'll mostly just hear seagulls flapping around, wondering why we're waking

0:56.9

them up so early. Jeff, a very good day to you. We have you at Sail Bay. So give us a glimpse of

1:04.1

the landscape around you. What's north, what's south, what's, well, I know what's west. That

1:08.9

would be the Pacific Ocean. Good day to you, Jeff.

1:12.3

Good day, John. I'm standing at the water's edge here on the north end of Sail Bay, and it's part of the

1:17.5

Mission Bay here in San Diego. And if you can see the lights over my shoulders, that's toward the

1:23.1

downtown area. And over my shoulder now is to the west. And that's Pacific Beach. And just on the

1:30.0

other side of the lights there, you know, probably less than a half mile is where the actual

1:34.6

breakers are hitting the beach. So it's, you know, this is a beach community. Down at the far end,

1:40.4

the lights there, you'll hit places that are very tourist oriented like SeaWorld. World

1:46.1

famous SeaWorld Amusement Park is there. And so we're standing at Waters Edge here. This is a kind of a

1:53.4

residential community area here, a lot of rentals, a lot of condos, some homes. And then, of course,

1:59.5

boating is here too. I'm pleased to be at San Diego.

2:03.8

This is the big town south of where I was one semester at Irvine. On the five freeway,

2:10.4

is that the one that comes down from the north? Yeah, the five freeway comes down this way, as does the 405. Those are our major freeways. And, of course, then when it gets down here, it turns into the eight. So that's kind of the north and south of things. But the five freeway is kind of the king of freeways through much of Southern California.

Now, in the reporting you've done about San Diego, featured during the pandemic, after the

2:38.2

pandemic, is the beach, which I take is quite wide and very commodious.

2:43.6

However, recently, there's been controversy about yoga on the beach.
