Out of the Silent Planet, Chapter 13.

Well, welcome, everyone.

Here on Pines with Jack, we're reading our way through the works of C.S. Lewis.

I'm Andrew, and I'm joined by my co-host, David, and Matt.

The season we find ourselves among the stars,

reading through the first of C.S. Lewis's science fiction trilogy,

out of the silent planet.

These two chapters today offer a very direct turn away from everyday time in the

hendrament and towards the larger implications of the novel. In today's episode, we'll

encounter a number of crucial struggles towards climax and crisis for ransom.

And since Lewis doesn't give his chapters any names, this season we're going to be naming each episode after a movie title.

So what do you got today, David?

Well, today we're going to be continuing to talk about the Hanakra, the water monster on Malacandra.

And this meant that I was very tempted to name today's episode Big Fish after the very whimsical 2003 movie starring Ewan McGregor.

But in the end, I went back to my roots, a classic 80s movie Predator, which is the 1987 story where

R. Schwarzenegger battles an extraterrestrial. So not only does it deal with extraterrestrial

monsters, in the first chapter that we're going to read today, we're going to have many

predators. The Hanakra is on the hunt, so is ransom andansom and the Rossa, as well as Western and Divine.
