They seemed surprised at his inability, and repeatedly pointed out to him a bright planet low on the western horizon.

He asked them the name of the bright southern planet and was told that it was Thalcandra,

the silent world or planet.

Welcome, everyone. Here on Pines with Jack, we're reading our way through the works of C.S. Lewis.

I'm Matt, and I'm joined by my lovely co-hosts, Andrew and David. This season, we find ourselves among the stars, reading

through the first of C.S. Lewis's science fiction trilogy, out of the silent planet. And I have to say, guys, we have one dense episode

plan today to the point where we're not sure if this is going to be split into two episodes

yet, but we're not only going to be getting into the hierarchy of Melanchondra. You know,

what is the entire spiritual realm and start teasing this and the

different creatures on there and how to interact? We're going to start building this out and

piecing it together. But more than that, if that wasn't enough, we're going to be touching

on pleasure. A little philosophical tangent that Lewis goes on, although it fits it nicely in.

War, fallen creatures. We're going to start to see fallen versus non-fallen and so

much more. So get ready for an action-packed episode. But before we dive in, since Lewis does not

give his chapters any names, this season we're going to be naming each episode after a movie title.

Now, there were a lot of possible candidates presented by David

for today's episode title, given that so many different topics are touched in this chapter,
