Welcome, everyone.

Here on Pints for Jack, we're working our way through the works of C.S. Lewis. My name is David, and I'm joined by my co-hosts, Andrew and Matt. And the opening

tongue-in-cheek quotation was from the opening monologue to Star Trek the original series,

because this season we find ourselves among the stars, reading through the first of

C.S. Lewis's science fiction trilogy. The book is Out of the Silent Planet.

Today we'll be kicking off season six and talking a little bit about what you can expect

in the coming months. And not only that, we'll also be talking about the origin and context of

this season's book. And since Lewis doesn't give

chapter names for Out of the Silent Planet, this season we're going to be naming each episode

after a movie. And today's episode I'm calling Ad Astra, which is the title of the

admittedly rather dull 2019 movie starring Brad Pitt.

And Ad Astra is a Latin phrase, which means to the stars.

And it has its origins in the Roman poet Virgil,

who wrote in the Eniad,

Sik Itur Ad Astra, which means thus one journeys to the stars.
