A local murder case that grabbed national attention is headed to trial.

Jerry Selection starting today in the trial of Sandra Melgar, who's accused of murdering

her longtime husband, then trying to cover it up.

Adam Bennett now showing us what went down today.

Both the prosecution and the defense spent the morning going through 65 prospective

jurors, but after going through that selection process, they couldn't come up with a group

of 12 that they were looking for.

Sandra Melgar is charged with murder.

Prosecutors say the 57-year-old stabbed her husband, Jaime, to death in December of 2012,

inside their northwest Harris County home.

They believe Melgar then tied herself up in a closet to make it look like a home invasion.

The two were found by relatives who came over to celebrate the couple's 30-second wedding

anniversary.

Melgar originally had told investigators that she blacked out in a bathroom and woke up

tied up in a closet.

But nearly two years later, she was arrested and charged with murder.

Melgar has been free on a $50,000 bond.

If convicted of murder, she faces up to life in prison.

That jury selection process expected to resume tomorrow morning.
