Someone had left it there to slowly rot away, and I, a boy in desperate need of a bike, had been guided by

the hand of Providence to rescue it from its watery grave. It had been a long time since Lady

Luck had shone her face in my little corner of the world. I was so happy I almost wanted to cry.

I dragged the bike up to crumbleumbling slope of the embankment

and laid it in the sun to dry out.

I had more than my fair sheriff worries that summer,

but at that moment,
